Let's welcome author Yolanda T. Marshall to the Whitby Public Library, Central Library for an all-ages Kwanzaa Storytime! Kwanzaa is an African American cultural holiday that has been adopted around the world, including in Canada, to celebrate African family, community and culture.
Yolanda is an award-winning Guyanese-born Canadian author and columnist who writes diverse, inclusive, and festive children’s literature, representing the African/Caribbean diaspora.
This is a drop-in program, no registration is required.
Ajax-born and award-winning singer/songwriter, screen composer and recording artist Alex Whorms, returns “home for the holidays” with her band for a special concert presentation, mixing her original music with some holiday favourites. It's an experience that will warm your heart on a cold December evening.
From her beloved piano she flows freely and flawlessly between styles and sounds, gracefully blending classic singer-songwriter pop, jazz, soul, rock, classical, folk and almost anything else that strikes her fancy.
Inspired by an array of musical artists including Sarah Slean, Tori Amos, Fiona Apple, Sara Bareilles, Carole King and Laila Biali, Alex crafts music that is essentially a genre unto itself.

Hansel and Gretel are siblings who are abandoned in a forest, and due to some rather unfortunate navigation, they fall into the hands of a nasty witch who lives in a gingerbread house. With songs you know and love, hilarious characters, and the silliest of stories, this sugar-laden panto will have you rolling in the aisles!
Who is this show for?
As in past years, the Capitol has performances suitable for both the ‘Naughty’, suitable for a mature audience; and the ‘Nice’, suitable for young audiences and families.
Ok, but what is a Panto?
Pantomime or panto is a holiday theatre tradition of organized chaotic comedy, with slapstick jokes, songs, and dancing. It’s also highly interactive, making it a joyful experience for artists and audiences alike. Pantos are typically based on fairy tales or legends – familiar tales that can be shaped into
new stories for today.
“Pantos are magical – colourful in style, set and language, and just so much fun. Northumberland county takes holiday celebrations seriously, and the panto has become an annual tradition for many folks in the area. We produce an original panto every year, so you’re going to see and hear something new each time.” ~Capitol Artistic Director Rob Kempson.

December 31st is our annual New Year's Celebration, We have food, fun and fellowship. Service begins at 9PM... we are going to celebrate the end of this decade thanking God for all He has done and will do in the next decade! We will be collecting a special offering on the 31st to fund our mission to dig a well to provide clean drinking water in Chinyunyu, Zambia as well as add money to the Christian Youth Scholarship Fund.
