  • Heads Up! Durham - TBI Awareness, Prevention and Support

Amongst other things, they run a program where high school students spend the day learning about the dangers of making poor choices such as distracted driving, impaired driving, etc.  It's called the Durham Region P.A.R.T.Y. program (Prevent Alcohol and Risk-Related Trauma in Youth), and follows the course of a Motor Vehicle Collision. Geared towards all students in grades 10-12 but especially those anticipating getting a driver’s license soon or students who are new drivers.  This program seeks to give the students a snapshot of the possible traumatic, and usually preventable, consequences of risk-related behaviours that can lead to injury.

Students learn about brain and spinal cord injury and hear from a variety of speakers including Durham Regional Police Service, Fire Services, Paramedic Services, and an injury survivor. Together they bring the students face-to-face with the reality of poor choices and emphasize ways to stay safe.  See Durham Region P.A.R.T.Y. Program - Heads Up! Durham

Their next program is April 29th from 10am to 2:30pm at the Oshawa Civic. Attendees will be players from Okanagan Hockey Ontario.

This program is a vital component of the growing community effort to reduce death and injury in alcohol, drug and risk-related crashes and incidents.
