Join us for the TIFF Ajax Film Circuit at the St. Francis Centre

Here’s your chance to watch films from the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) without driving into the city, dealing with traffic jams and paying for parking - it’s all right here in Ajax! Film selections include Canadian and foreign made films, contemporary cinema and thought-provoking independent films.

    Exhibiting Forgiveness
Tarrell (André Holland) is an artist on the road to success, whose life is disrupted by the return of his estranged, formerly abusive father, La’Ron (John Earl Jelks), who is desperate to reconcile. All this amid his mother’s (Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor) declining health. As Tarrell grapples with resurfacing childhood traumas, the film explores themes of forgiveness, familial reconciliation and the complexities of healing. Exhibiting Forgiveness received critical acclaim for its authentic portrayal of intergenerational trauma and for the nuanced performances of its cast.

  • Postcards to the Front Workshop
Postcards to the Front (Canada / Канада) facilitates Canadians sending postcards with messages of support and encouragement to Defenders of Ukraine. As at the end of 2025, more than 17,000 postcards messages have travelled from Canada to Ukraine’s front lines.
Helen Bajorek and Jean-Michel Komarnicki have invited Canadians to write postcards by holding information and postcard-writing sessions at Legion Halls, in schools, in church basements at numerous community events, and even via Zoom with organizations across Canada. Their workshop includes an introduction to writing Ukrainian, with encouragement to try to write at least one sentence in Ukrainian to foster a sense of solidarity through the written word. Hint: you don’t have to be perfect!
This workshop will have three parts, running approximately 90 minutes:
    1. Introduction of the project and positive impacts of postcards at the front lines – 15-20 minutes.
    2. Introduction to the Ukrainian alphabet, along with some practice and provision of some helpful phrases translated for use in writing messages of support - 10 minutes.
    3. Postcard writing – 45-60 minutes.

  • A Jack & Jill to Die For - Dinner Murder Mystery
A dinner and interactive "Who Dunnit" comedy/murder mystery, full of intrigue, where YOU are part of the story!
Jack and Jill met on lovers hill, and now it's wedding bells ahead!
You and all their friends have been invited to celebrate at their Jack & Jill party! It's going to be so much fun!
But behind the scenes, you know.. there's a bit of those rumour thingies going on eh?
Jill Jones has been struggling with so many decisions! Colours, theme, seating, food options and more. It's a good thing she only works part time at the bank so that she can invest her time into all that planning. She must budget really well to survive on a part-time paycheque!
You've heard that Jill's mother, Jane Jones (you know, the one with the title of "Dame of the Royal Goose"), may not be too happy with her daughter's choice of groom. Apparently he's not upper-crust enough for her liking.
But Jack Jeffrey is a nice guy. Stable, works in Sales for that Tick testing company. Not alot of money in that yet, but word is, he's been exploring some other interesting investment opportunities.
His best man, Cleetus Clarke, works there too. You remember him from high school right? Math wiz back then! Today, he's the tick tester for the same company Jack works at. He'd do anything for Jack, or Jill, having been friends with them for so many years.
Tia Titania, the Maid of Honour, who works alongside Jill at the bank as a Loans officer, says she'll be there with bells on! She and Jill became fast friends shortly after she moved here from Cornwall. Don't say anything, but but the thing is, she ha's been overheard complaining about Jill's struggle to make decisions!
Father Francis will be there too! He's been in Canada for years but still has a good dose of that Irish Isle in him. Just be careful what you confess if he's had a few drinks. Or maybe, see what he slips if he has had a few!
It's even said we might see our local Queen and King of Drag attending; Crystal Rose and Rock Er Klozoffe? The Waldorf and Statler of any good party, this ought to be interesting!
This Jack n Jill is gonna be killer!

Starring Gemini Award winner, Geri Hall (This Hour Has 22 Minutes, Second City), and Writers Guild and Canadian Screen Award winner, Gary Pearson (MadTV, This Hour Has 22 Minutes, Corner Gas, Sunnyside), critics are raving about the special chemistry and comedy these two share as they poke fun at that time of life when the bloom is off the rose, but the thorns are as sharp as ever.

  • TIFF Ajax Film Circuit presents "The Life of Chuck"

Join us for the TIFF Ajax Film Circuit at the St. Francis Centre

Here’s your chance to watch films from the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) without driving into the city, dealing with traffic jams and paying for parking - it’s all right here in Ajax! Film selections include Canadian and foreign made films, contemporary cinema and thought-provoking independent films.

    The Life of Chuck
With The Life of Chuck, Mike Flanagan explores one of Stephen King’s most optimistic works. The world feels like it’s ending, and everybody is saying goodbye to Chuck. Wherever Marty (Chiwetel Ejiofor) goes, he can’t get away from Charles Krantz (Tom Hiddleston). His face shows up on billboards, window signs and even TV commercials. What’s so special about this seemingly ordinary accountant? Fans of Flanagan’s skillful storytelling in The Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass, and Doctor Sleep will easily see why he gravitated towards the unorthodox structure of this King novella that manages a rare feat: finding warmth in melancholy.

The Life of Chuck was the 2024 TIFF People's Choice Award Winner.

    Concessions and cash bar available.

Tickets are only $12 and are available at the Ajax and McLean Community Centres, the Audley Recreation Centre, and online at www.ajax.ca/sfc. For more information, call 905-619-2529, ext. 2787 (ARTS), email us at stfranciscentre@ajax.ca, or visit us online at www.ajax.ca/sfc

    Bob Trevino Likes It
Inspired by the true friendship that writer/director Tracie Laymon found with a stranger when looking for her father online.

Often playing the role of caretaker to people, like her father, who should be caring for her, Lily Trevino longs for familial connection, having been abandoned by her mother as a child and then suddenly by her father in her twenties. Bob Trevino works long hours alone at a construction company to support his wife Jeanie's scrapbooking habit. Having endured a lot in the past decade, Bob puts his wife first, to the point of ignoring his own feelings and his need for friendship, meaning and connection - that is, until he gets an unexpected Facebook message from a stranger. Lily and Bob's blossoming friendship becomes a vital source of connection and healing for them both. Ninan Auassat: We, the Children
In recognition of National Indigenous Peoples Day, the St. Francis Centre presents a free screening of Ninan Auassat: We, the Children. Told entirely from a child’s perspective, Ninan Auassat: We, the Children is a powerful and immersive documentary that reveals the dreams of a new generation ready to take flight. Renowned for her intimate and compelling films, director Kom O’Bomsawin takes us deep into the world of Indigenous youth, capturing the stories of children from the Atikamekw, Eeyou Cree and Innu Nations over a period of more than six years. Without adult narration or expert commentary, the film offers an unfiltered look at childhood as it unfolds, from everyday life to defining moments on the path to adulthood. It’s a bold cinematic statement — one that gives space to a generation eager to be heard. Their voices ring out, not just as personal stories, but as a call to action, demanding recognition and the chance to thrive on their own terms.
