10:00am - 03:00pmHow does a middle-aged widow foil the Nazis in occupied France? By knitting—in code!
During World War II, a middle-aged Canadian woman – secretly Jewish – is recruited by the British Operations Executive to serve as a spy in Nazi-occupied France. Her male colleague is skeptical she'll make any difference because she's a woman — and an 'old' one at that. But she defies expectations and challenges the chauvinism and antisemitism of the times, using her craft of knitting to pass coded intelligence messages about the Germans to the Allies.
'Spycraft' was inspired by the research of writers-producers Kirk Dunn and Claire Ross-Dunn, who uncovered untold stories of women during WWII using knitting as a tool for espionage — listening in on Nazi soldiers who never saw them as a threat and stitching secret codes into everyday garments to smuggle intelligence past enemy lines.

03:00pm - 05:00pmA twisted take on the stickiest fairy tale we could find.
Hansel and Gretel are siblings who are abandoned in a forest, and due to some rather unfortunate navigation, they fall into the hands of a nasty witch who lives in a gingerbread house. With songs you know and love, hilarious characters, and the silliest of stories, this sugar-laden panto will have you rolling in the aisles!
Who is this show for?
As in past years, the Capitol has performances suitable for both the ‘Naughty’, suitable for a mature audience; and the ‘Nice’, suitable for young audiences and families.
Ok, but what is a Panto?
Pantomime or panto is a holiday theatre tradition of organized chaotic comedy, with slapstick jokes, songs, and dancing. It’s also highly interactive, making it a joyful experience for artists and audiences alike. Pantos are typically based on fairy tales or legends – familiar tales that can be shaped into
new stories for today.
“Pantos are magical – colourful in style, set and language, and just so much fun. Northumberland county takes holiday celebrations seriously, and the panto has become an annual tradition for many folks in the area. We produce an original panto every year, so you’re going to see and hear something new each time.” ~Capitol Artistic Director Rob Kempson.
How long is the show?
Run time is approximately 120 minutes.

Join us for the TIFF Ajax Film Circuit at the St. Francis Centre!
Here’s your chance to watch films from the Toronto international Film Festival (TIFF) without driving into the city, dealing with traffic jams and paying for parking - it’s all right here in Ajax! Film selections include Canadian and foreign made films, contemporary cinema and thought-provoking independent films.
Crip Camp: A Disability Revolution
In recognition of International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the St. Francis Centre presents a free screening of Crip Camp: A Disability Revolution. In the early 1970s, teenagers with disabilities faced a future shaped by isolation, discrimination and institutionalization. Camp Jened, a ramshackle camp “for the handicapped” (a term no longer used) in the Catskills, exploded those confined. Jened was their freewheeling Utopia, a place with summertime sports, smoking and make-out sessions, where campers experienced liberation and full inclusion as human beings. Their bonds endured as many migrated west to Berkeley - a hotbed of activism where friends from Camp Jened realized that disruption, civil disobedience and political participation could change the future for millions. No one at Camp Jened could’ve imagined that those summers in the woods together would be the beginnings of a revolution!
Concessions and cash bar available.
This film presentation is FREE to attend, however, registration is required either online at www.ajax.ca/sfc, by email at stfranciscentre@ajax.ca or by calling 905-619-2529, ext. 2787 (ARTS).

The Penguin Lessons
Starring Oscar nominee Steve Coogan, this poignant dramedy follows an Englishman’s personal and political awakening after he adopts a penguin during a cataclysmic period in Argentine history. Inspired by true events, 'The Penguin Lessons' takes to heart the notion that saving someone’s life begins a new responsibility. In this case, that someone is a surprisingly wise, utterly adorable penguin. Helmed by Peter Cattaneo (The Full Monty; Military Wives), 'The Penguin Lessons' delivers this delightful story with wit, warmth and subtle insight into just how rewarding it can be to do the right thing.
